The problem with unlabeled storage bins
A box marked “miscellaneous” tells you almost nothing six months later. Whether you store holiday decorations, tools, baby clothes, or spare parts, a useful storage system answers two questions: which container holds it, and where is that container?
Create a container system that survives a move
Give every box, tote, or bin a unique identifier you can read easily. In Placed, create a container with that number, attach the items inside, and assign the storage room or location. Write the identifier clearly on the physical box. You do not need a special label printer.
Find a stored item without opening bins
When you need an item, search its name or ask Placed AI about its saved location. Open the related container in Placed, or scan its saved identifier using the app, to review contents. Container lookup uses identifiers saved in Placed, not a universal barcode database.
Make every shelf searchable
Separate the location of the box from its contents. For example, “Garage, right wall, top shelf” describes the container, while the items list describes what is inside. Update the app when a box moves or items are removed.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy barcode labels?
No. Placed supports saved container identifiers. You can write a simple unique number on the bin and save it in the app.
Can I organize multiple boxes in one room?
Yes. Each container can be tracked separately and associated with its own items and storage location.
