Moving boxes, minus the guessing.

Build a moving inventory that still helps after moving day.

Simple, useful ways to keep track of belongings using Placed, the searchable home inventory app for iPhone.

Before the move: photograph and sort

Start with items you will not need immediately. Take photos in Placed, note their current location, and add important documents or identifying details. Assign broad categories like kitchen, office, or seasonal decor so they stay searchable after the move.

As you pack: give each box an identity

Number your moving boxes and create matching containers in Placed. Add the packed items to each container so a label like “Box 12” can tell you more than “kitchen stuff.” Save the intended destination room to help with unloading.

During the move: keep locations accurate

If boxes go into a garage, storage unit, or temporary room, update the container location in Placed. Try to keep the box numbers visible on more than one side so you can identify stacked containers.

After the move: unpack without searching everywhere

Search for a specific item and see which box holds it. When you unpack it, update its saved room and location. Your moving inventory can become your long-term home inventory instead of a list you never use again.
